When you walk through a market, all of your senses suddenly become sharper. The unique smells, tastes, and noise all come together and suddenly that one special thing catches your attention. Your hand is now reaching for something that you immediately know is yours. It’s different from anything you have seen at the other kiosks and it’s an item that expresses who you are. This is what happened to me when I arrived in Morocco for the first time. Marrakesh hypnotized me and I found myself becoming deeply connected to the culture and the people. I was fascinated. The experience at the market was like trying to find a buried treasure from the endless kiosks. I decided I wanted to bring the amazing treasures and senses I had experienced from the market directly to the comfort of your own home.
It all started in 2009 when I visited Morocco, my mother’s native country. There I was welcomed with a paradoxical essence of new and old, simplicity and intensity. Fast forward ten years and I find myself working as a flight attendant when I meet a unique passenger who will forever change my life. Because of her, I returned to Morocco and I began to weave and prepare merchandise with the local manufacturers and traders. The city welcomed me into its arms, and I accepted the challenge I set for myself – to bring the Moroccan modernity to Israeli homes. In my opinion, handmade items are an art that does not compromise. The uniqueness that each item has and the ability for it to reflect the person that made it is unbelievable.
I am proud to present AFRITA, items that are handmade and tailor made from local artists in Morocco. Nothing is harmed in the manufacturing process, on the contrary, the handmade items bring happiness to each household in Morocco and Israel.
The word “Afrita” means demon in Moroccan Arabic. “Little miss devil” was my nickname when I was younger because I grew into a strong woman who knows how to get what she wants. Now, you can also find your inner “little miss devil” and get what you want for yourself!
